2.What's so special about the Siltech silver-gold metallurgy? To understand why we use silver and gold for our cables, let's look at silver's crystalline structure. The natural crystallized structure of copper and silver does not exhibit the characteristics of optimum conductivity. The making of the wire causes micro cracks in the surface of the wire. The solidification process causes imperfect crystal grid structures, which causes very small distortions when current flows through it. These crystal-groups can be seen as ball-shaped clusters of crystals. There is much space between the connected 'balls' but Siltech has developed a proprietary technique that greatly reduces these crystal boundary gaps. The 24K gold fills the empty spaces between the crystal groups and so improves the mechanical and electrical signal transmission properties.
