When a lifelong musician and audiophile speaks, we listen.

Dr. Matthew Deegan has been immersed in music since 1978. With two music degrees, formal studies in piano, violin and viola, and over sixty years of professional classical guitar performance, his listening experience is grounded in both technical understanding and artistic sensitivity.

His current system is no casual setup. Fyne Audio 703 SP loudspeakers, an Audio Research integrated amplifier, and a reference-level T+A SACD source form a serious foundation. After years of experimentation with various cable brands, Dr. Deegan began searching for something more.

That search led him to the Netherlands and to Siltech.

Enter the Classic Legend 380

After reading about silver conductors and Siltech’s proprietary metallurgy, Dr. Deegan chose the Classic Legend 380 interconnects and speaker cables, allowing them to settle in before revisiting his most familiar recordings.

His reaction was immediate:

“I was stunned.”

Berlioz — Symphonie Fantastique

Complex orchestral passages revealed new levels of clarity and structure. Rapid string and woodwind attacks, previously blurred together, were presented with precision and articulation. Even in the quietest passages, 80 musicians playing pianissimo, instrumental colours remained distinct and balanced.

Most striking was the spatial layering:

“For the first time I could hear the winds BEHIND the strings… it’s in the score and now I can hear it.”

The 380 Series unveiled depth and dimensionality that had been obscured before.

Steely Dan — Control in the Low End

Where bass once sounded bloated and indistinct, the Classic Legend 380 delivered containment, punch, and texture. Backing vocals emerged clearly separated in space. Instead of guessing how many singers were present, individual voices could be identified and placed.

The result: cleaner, more intelligible low frequencies and a midrange no longer masked by excess energy.

Peter Gabriel — The Ultimate Test

Peter Gabriel’s recordings are notorious for demanding systems, especially in the layered bass and percussion regions. According to Dr. Deegan, the 380 handled the complexity with ease.

Sub-bass, mid-bass, layered electronic textures and percussion remained controlled and separated. Background keyboard parts, once perceived as simple synth tones, now revealed brass-like character and tonal nuance.

And vocals?

“Peter’s voice is right where you want it, spaced high and directly between the now disappeared speakers.”

Beauty of Tone Above All

As a professional musician, tone is paramount.

“When you have beauty of tone along with separation, detail, dynamics and clarity, then you are speaking my language.”

For Dr. Deegan, the Classic Legend 380 did not simply improve resolution. It restored musical beauty, while unlocking greater transparency and structure.

His conclusion?

“You can always hear more… I will be upgrading to the 680 model ASAP. Go Holland!”
