Refinement in Every Note — Royal Single Crown Reviewed by Jason Thorpe in SoundStage! Ultra
In his latest column for the SoundStage! Network, long-time contributor Jason Thorpe dives deeper into the sonic influence of Siltech’s Royal Single Crown cables. After previously reviewing the speaker cables, Thorpe returned to the unopened boxes—this time wiring up the entire amplification chain with Siltech’s flagship XLR interconnects and power cords.
What followed was, in his own words, “a refinement, a housecleaning, an enhancement of everything that’s good about music.”
From the moment the cables entered the system, Thorpe notes immediate benefits: “instant gains in space around instruments” and “solidity of images” that brought him closer to each performance. Listening to Peter Gabriel and Japan, he observed “each strummed string existed as its own separate entity, alive and present in space.” These improvements weren’t about changing the tonal balance—Thorpe reports none—but about unlocking detail, texture, and realism at a new level.
Describing the Royal Single Crown power cords, Thorpe shares his first impression as one of “uncompromising solidity.” With their thicker build and solid connectors, he quips, “I could almost see myself swinging this thing over my head in battle like a morningstar.” Once installed, he notes “notable, substantial gains,” particularly in the dynamic shape of piano notes and spatial presentation.
For Thorpe, the Royal Single Crown series didn’t just improve the listening experience—it redefined it.
“The leading edge gained a quicker sense of ramping up to full impact, while the tails of each key strike continued on just a little further in perception as they trailed off into infinity.”
